Michael Martin is a true artist of San Antonio. He embodies the craft of songwriting, musicianship, and complete devotion to his craft. It is an honor to be playing together again! THIS WEEKEND!!!
Michael Martin is best known around these parts as frontman for the folk-rock band the Infidels, which he formed in the mid-'80s and whose name was inspired by Dylan's 1983 album "Infidels." He's also recorded and toured the world (and appeared on "Late Show With David Letterman") with singer-songwriter Tom Russell. That gig lasted almost four years. Many admire him for his amazing talents as a pen and ink artist. Martin is planning a new solo record. For this one, he's decided to team up with Grammy-winning producer Joe Treviño at Blue Cat Studios, a crossroads of the Tex-Mex scene.
Azul Barrientos is a musician dedicated to observing and conserving the cultural influences and interconnections between Latin America, Africa, Europe, and Mexico. Born in Mexico City, Azul was introduced to Latin America’s traditional and folkloric songs at an early age. This legacy drives her passion for reviving lost cultural traditions and sharing each song’s unique history. Azul moved to San Antonio as a young woman, developing a reputation as a bridge-builder between Mexicana and Chicana cultures. She rejoices in her Latina roots, giving new life to the rhythms and stories of previous generations. For more information, please call Esperanza at 210-228-0201

Pachanga De San Patricio 3pm – 8pm | Free and Open to the Public LINE-UP 3:00pm Angelika Ruiz 4:30pm Los San Patricios (Michael Martin will be performing with Los San Patricios) 5:45pm Inishfree Irish Dance 6:15pm Piñata Protest This Tobin Center Pachanga honors St. Patrick’s Day with something different, a “FolkPunkRock” festival exploring traditional music from new perspectives. Cross cultural influences combine to shape contemporary music in a San Antonio party like no other. Celebrate and dance with Piñata Protest and Los San Patricios. This Pachanga is rounded out by San Antonio dancers presenting samples of the interesting 6:8 rhythm found almost exclusively in Veracruz (Huapango), Ireland (the jig), and western Africa (wawa-nko), or snake rhythm. The Tobin’s Executive Chef, Armando Lopez, has prepared a fabulously twisted menu and, of course, the spirits will match the variety of cultural influence and experimentation.
